threat! is a response to the politicization of transgender people and their bodies by means of legislating their erasure from legal protections. Legislators are falsely accusing transgender people of being a threat to public health and safety simply by existing, hence the use of colors often associated with warnings of dangerous situations or emergencies. Through these and other works in the threat! series, ArtXMarx paints the outline of the figures in rich black ink to obtain the soft fluidity of the transgender body, in form and expression.
