CULTUREEDIT ART AUCTION #1
felix velvet
Felix Velvet was born in 1980 in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain. He is a self-taught photographer and video artist whose work is internationally recognized. His photographs have been published and exhibited in Australia, Europe, Mexico, and the United States. Velvet frequently uses his own body as subject for his photographs. His work combines elements of Spanish culture, Catholic iconography, physical martyrdom, mental illness, and interpretations of his dreams and nightmares. He upends conventions and expectations, often scandalizing the viewer. Due to the contentious nature of his work, he is considered transgressive and is harshly criticized by radical conservatives. These extremists harass and intimidate him by sending death threats and attacks to his various social media platforms. His response is a soon-to-be-released book titled PAGAN, published by Sebastian+Melmoth and with a foreword by Roger Ballen. The photos in the CULTUREEDIT auction are all from PAGAN.
