CULTUREEDIT ART AUCTION #1
Rainer Wolter
Rainer Wolter, Rise and Shine, 2024
Details
A single deerskin hide, stretched and molded, lifts off the surface to reveal ten phallic forms—dyed jet black and polished to a shine. Unrestricted by glass, the piece invites touch, evoking a sense of both curiosity and taboo. Like a pair of fine dress shoes, it demands ritualistic maintenance—dusting, buffing, polishing. With each act of care, the lines between control and devotion, masculinity and eroticism, begin to blur.

CULTUREEDIT ART AUCTION #1
Rainer Wolter
Queer creator, collector, tinkerer raised in lederhosen with a pet buffalo on a floral farm in rural Pennsylvania by an eccentric immigrant father and a defiantly strong mother. Through textiles and fibers, their work challenges gender norms, intertwining tradition, identity and subversion.
