About The Exhibition
The exhibition features eleven new pieces by Anglada, who since 2019 has gained worldwide recognition for his homoerotic paintings and drawings that explore queer sexual experiences, desires, fetishes and culture. Inspired by comic books, magazine culture and masters that include Tom of Finland, Harry Bush, Jiraya Bill, Will Ward and Patrick Angus among others, the artist captures “caught in the act” sexual moments that gives the viewer an emotion to elaborate on in their own imagination.
Utilizing watercolor and color pencils as media, Anglada’s works have a monochromatic hue that evokes the limited colorways of vintage comics and pop-art, a source material and language that is further emphasized through composition and cropping. The artist manipulates this lens even further by framing his subjects in formats that reference glory and peep holes, creating erogenous and abstracted close-ups that although erotic never appears pornographic.
Pol Anglada’s work is unconsciously informed by his education and experience in the fashion in- dustry, with a stylized language that elevates fetish culture. His work has over the years been embedded into queer culture through his independent publishing and merch project FREE-TIME and collaborations with brands that include JW Anderson, Moncler and Grindr.
A limited edition zine published by INNEN ZINE in Zurich accompanies the exhibition.
